Sex and Art
Adapted from the book of the same name, by Chris Kraus, I Love Dick is an American series about Chris, a married artist and director who becomes obsessed with another man, a man named… Dick. She decides to write letters to him without sending them to explore her desire. Her husband gradually integrates this artistic project, their couple thus embarking on an abstract love triangle.
It is one of the first works of fiction where I have seen a female gaze (female view of beings and things) so bold and powerful. The screenwriters are in fact exclusively women. We are immersed in the obsessive fantasies of a woman who is a bit crazy for a mysterious cowboy. It is by turns delicious, erotic, comical and even ridiculous. We follow her changing moods, her doubts and her sexual impulses. And we observe the links between desire and creation.
The series portrays other feminist characters who will defy the conventions around body and gender to express their voice. It is cathartic! Iris
